Everyone who gets started in the watchmaking hobby knows that sooner or later, they will need to purchase a mainspring winder. Winding by hand introduces oils from your hands or bits of skin or latex from gloves or finger cots and most importantly, will kink or damage the mainspring.
What are you to do if you need a mainspring winder but cannot afford the Bergeon winders which sell for up to 00 for a kit?
Some have turned to the Chinese knockoff kits. They are universally rated as terrible, and those that make do with them know that the sizes available do not encompass all of the barrel sizes you will need to work on.

The Small Starter Set includes:
Small winder, with 2mm stainless steel arbor
Placing base
Small setting bowl
(1) housing and matching plunger of your choice in sizes: 7.0-12.5mm
StapleJig (to make spare arbor hooks)

The Large Starter set includes:
Large winder with 3mm stainless steel arbor
Placing base
Large setting bowl
One housing and matching plunger of your choice in sizes: 13.0-18.5mm
StapleJig (to make spare arbor hooks)

Note: Either starter set INCLUDES your first housing
Note: Please watch the video. Measure your barrel's inner diameter. You should order a housing .5mm smaller than your measured inner barrel diameter.
The 7.0 - 12.5 mm housings are part of the Small Set. You will need the
small starter set
to use these housings. When ordering the small starter kit or the smaller housings, be sure to specify the housing size desired.  Housings are available in .5 mm increments from 7.0 to 12.5mm.
The 13.0 - 18.5 mm housings are part of the Large Set. You will need the
large starter set
to use these housings.
When ordering the large starter kit or the larger housings, be sure to specify the housing size desired.  Housings are available in .5 mm increments from 13.0 to 18.5mm.
The arbor hooks are made from a standard staple.
You will inevitably lose or break the arbor hook.
It takes all of 5 seconds to make a new one with the included StapleJig.
